MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) ? Keegan Bradley went from a rookie to a rock star in the Ryder Cup, and Phil Mickelson saw it coming.
Moments after Bradley poured in an 18-foot birdie putt on the second hole Friday morning, Mickelson stood off to the side of the tee box to watch Bradley prepare to smash another drive. He nodded in the direction of Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia, who had never lost a foursomes match.
Mickelson grinned and said, "They're not going to know what hit them."
Turns out he wasn't just talking about one match. Bradley made a 25-foot birdie putt to win the opening match on the 15th hole. Then, Bradley and Mickelson ganged up on Europe's top tandem of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, winning three straight holes out of the box and closing them out when Mickelson hit a 7-iron to 2 feet on the 17th hole at Medinah.
It set the tone for a day filled with endless cheering and plenty of American red on the scoreboard, giving the U.S. team a 5-3 lead over Europe despite Tiger Woods getting shut out on opening day for the fourth time in the Ryder Cup.
"It could be the best day of my life," Bradley said.
Saturday figures to be a strange day for Woods in the Ryder Cup ? his first time in uniform without a tee time. Sticking to his plan, U.S. captain Davis Love decided to bench Woods in the third session of matches to make sure his team is rested for the decisive singles matches Sunday. That ends Woods' streak of playing in 31 consecutive matches.
As for Bradley? His energy is boundless.
Mickelson took Bradley under his wing last year for a series of money games at the majors to prepare the 26-year-old from New England for a stage like this. And did he ever deliver. He was into every shot, cocking his head to the side to read putts, charging up the gallery and Mickelson in a command performance.
"This is literally what I've dreamt about since I was a little kid," Bradley said. "I got to do it next to my idol all day."
He wasn't the only rookie to shine on a mild day in the Chicago suburbs.
Nicolas Colsaerts, the 29-year-old from Belgium, helped Europe avoid getting shut out in afternoon fourballs by single-handedly taking down Woods and Steve Stricker.
Colsaerts made eight birdies and an eagle ? a 10-under 62 if he was keeping score on his own. He teamed with Lee Westwood, who was just along for this amazing ride for a 1-up victory that ended 11 hours of action so typical in this high-charged event.
"I don't think there has ever been a better debut than that," Westwood said.
Woods and Stricker also lost to Ian Poulter and Justin Rose in morning foursomes, making this the fourth time in the seven Ryder Cups that Woods has played that he lost both matches on the opening day.
There was nothing Woods could do against Colsaerts, the biggest hitter in Europe who isn't too bad with the putter, either.
"Nicolas probably had one of the greatest putting rounds I've ever seen," Woods said, high praise coming from a 14-time major champion.
Woods turned in a mixed performance. He missed a 6-foot birdie putt on the 15th to fall 2 down, and then came back with a bending, 25-foot birdie putt on the 16th and a shot into 4 feet on the 17th that looked as if it might square the match. Instead, Colsaerts rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt for a halve. Woods had a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th to halve the match, only it caught the left lip.
"We ran into a guy who made everything today," Woods said. "I don't know what he shot. He was like 7 under through 10. I quit counting after that."
Love said he told Woods and Stricker they would be sitting out the foursomes matches Saturday morning, "and I can guarantee you, neither one of them are very happy about it. Not because they are sitting out; because they have to wait till tomorrow afternoon to come back."
Both captains made sure all 12 of their players got into the game early, though European captain Jose Maria Olazabal set himself up for second-guessing when he sat out Donald, Garcia and Poulter for the afternoon matches. They have a combined 31-13-5 record in the Ryder Cup.
Olazabal put Donald and Westwood together for Saturday morning, while Colsaerts will play with Garcia. McIlroy and McDowell will play for a third time, although the Spanish captain said the pairings were not the problem.
"I'm going to make it clear to the boys that they need to step it up," he said. "They need to play better golf, simple as that. There is no secret about this game. You have to make more birdies than your opponent. And if you don't do that, you're going to struggle."
Mickelson set an American record by playing in his ninth Ryder Cup, and he won his opening two matches for the first time in his career. Mickelson came up with some big putts and amazing shots, and the 42-year-old felt about 10 years younger playing alongside Bradley.
"I felt young," Mickelson said. "And it felt great."
Europe has won six of the last eight times in the Ryder Cup, and it wasn't about to hang its head after one day. It was leading all four of the opening matches early Friday under a gloomy sky. The sun came out, and the Americans came to life.
"There's a long way to go in this tournament," Rose said. "There's ebbs and flows. Obviously, there's momentum for the U.S. team right now, but that could all swing back in our favor tomorrow."
Even so, the Americans headed to their team room full of confidence. It won five of eight matches without getting a point from Woods, and they picked up a little extra momentum when Mickelson and Bradley took down McIlroy, the No. 1 player in the world.
The Ryder Cup again lived up to its billing as the most exciting tournament in golf with relentless action, huge swings in momentum and endless cheers.
Bubba Watson asked the crowd to keep chanting and cheering when he stepped to the tee for his afternoon fourballs with Webb Simpson, and the Masters champion belted his drive down the middle, raising his driver to play to the crowd. Then, the Americans did a number of Paul Lawrie and Peter Hanson, going 6 up through eight holes and closing them out on the 14th hole.
Matt Kuchar ran off four straight birdies as he and Dustin Johnson built an early lead against Rose and Martin Kaymer.
The only rookie who didn't deliver a point was FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker, though it wasn't from a lack of effort. Snedeker and Furyk were 3 down through 12 holes against McIlroy and McDowell in the morning when they put together a furious rally, with Furyk carrying the bulk of the load. They squared the match going to the 18th when Snedeker hit a drive toward the hospitality tents well right of the fairway, and Furyk couldn't convert a 20-foot par putt to halve the match.
But it was a sign of the American fight.
Bradley was at his best on the par-3 13th, perhaps the toughest tee shot because it was long and into the wind, requiring a hybrid. He hit it to 15 feet left of the flag, and as the crowd chanted, "USA! USA!" Bradley nodded at them repeatedly.
Mickelson, who first played in these matches in 1995, smiled and gently patted him on the back to let him soak up the moment. Lefty then holed the birdie putt for a 2-up lead, and Garcia missed a 3 1/2-foot par putt on the next hole. It was the Spaniard's first loss in 10 foursomes matches dating to 1999.
Bradley was so into the moment that his focus was broken walking up the 15th hole when he spotted fans holding a large American flag on the left side of the gallery. He jogged over to them for high-fives, waited for Mickelson to play a wedge into the green, and then holed the 25-foot birdie putt.
His caddie, Steve Hale, swung the flagstick around like a baseball bat until Mickelson's caddie reminded him to put it in the hole for Donald to play a bunker shot.
"There's a simple reason why Keegan is perfect for the Ryder Cup," Mickelson said. "The more pressure the situation, the better he plays, the better he sees the shot, the better he focuses. And the better the result. As a player, you feel more pressure and intensity during these matches than you do at any other event.
"And that's when he's at his best."
Jason Dufner, another American rookie, actually showed some emotion with a tiny fist pump when his 15-foot birdie putt on the ninth stopped next to the cup, then dropped in the left side. Dufner made birdie on the next hole for a foursomes win with Zach Johnson over Westwood and Francesco Molinari.
Poulter holed a bunker shot, a long birdie putt and a clutch par putt from 7 feet on the 16th hole that carried he and Rose to victory over Woods and Stricker. Poulter has lost only three times in 12 matches in his Ryder Cup career. Two of those had been to Woods.
"I never wanted to have another one," Poulter said.
Next up is another long day of foursomes and fourballs, a chance for Europe to get back in the game going into the Sunday singles.
Love could not have asked for a better start, particularly from his rookies ? and especially from Bradley, who was sad to see this dream day come to an ed.
"Oh, baby," Bradley said. "I wish we could go 36 more."

MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) ? For the first time in his career, Tiger Woods will be on the bench at the Ryder Cup.
U.S. captain Davis Love III has decided not to play Woods in the Saturday morning session of foursomes. Woods had played every match since making his debut at Valderrama in 1997. He did not play in the 2008 matches while recovering from knee surgery, and he only played four matches in Wales two years ago because the matches were reconfigured due to rain.
Love had said all week he didn't want players to be in all five matches so they could conserve energy for the singles matches on Sunday.
Woods played poorly in a foursomes loss Friday morning and was sent back out. He made seven birdies Friday afternoon in a fourball loss and was benched.

I?m talking from experience when I tell you that the home internet business may fail without a plan. I have been working online for several years now, and I floundered for the first few years because I didn?t plan.At first I informed myself, learned all I could about how to build an business, how to build and maintain a WordPress blog, record building and marketing my business. As you go along, I ?reinvented? myself several times by changing markets and business types trying to find what I loved and what worked for me, all the while understanding the all techniques of the deal I possibly can. Sooner or later I understood that I needed to put all that education and instruction to work helping others to understand to make use of WordPress and the advertising needed to create their organizations on a great foundation for success.I love working from home. There is nothing a lot better than having the ability to come and go when I please, attend lunches and family excursions, play with my son in the middle of the day and remain in my jammies til noon if I need. When I feel just like it I could begin my day when I want to and quit. There?s just nothing a lot better than employed by yourself from home on the computer without any chef breathing down your neck. In the end, is not that the major the main home internet business appeal?Of course it is! Only problem is I wasn?t making much money. All of the benefits without any financial rewards. Now do not get me wrong. I worked hard, often working 12-14 hours a day and weekends to produce up for my ?flexible hours.? I?d learned to do anything I wanted to make a profitable business and then some. So why was I so darned broke? Why was I operating so much for so little?Does any of this problem? Are you currently only treading water like I was to keep afloat? Are you working constantly to make something happen without results? One evening I understood that so many of the advertising techniques I learned and used had dropped by the wayside. There just weren?t enough hours in the day to accomplish them anymore. I was working much too difficult for the minimal results I was getting. That is when I took an look at what I was doing and understood that I had stopped to plan everything out. With no strategy, a to complete list and possible goals, I become a blithering idiot. Because I?d never not had a plan before, I did not understand that about myself. I?m gambling you don?t get too far without a plan possibly, am I right?Planning is the glue that holds this whole internet factor together! Without it, you tend to chase every shiny object that glides across your monitor down every rabbit opening you can buy, do not you Alice? And you end up working a significant amount of with no desired outcome. I call that ?busy? work, perhaps not successful work.Without an agenda, there is no focus, no time constraints. This enables one to give an infinite amount to your self of time to complete an activity or task. Without time constraints, you end up taking all the time on the planet to obtain things done. A lot of active work and like I have been spying on you, right piddling around with nothing showing for it.I know, it?s? Nope, I only know because I?ve been there, done that how it works. I work with clients on a regular basis which can be struggling with this same issues. It is human nature. So just how do you repair it so you may become successful? You?ve to simply take the bull by the horns and become an adviser. Create regular, annual, weekly and daily programs, use always check lists, to complete lists, home timers, whatever it will take to help keep you centered and on the right track. Until you do, you will not make a lot of an income, if any.Over yesteryear many months I have experienced a bit if a business downturn as a result of family and health problems and recovery from surgery on my arm. I?ve kept every thing going, but have slacked off on applying some of the marketing, traffic, list building and monetizing methods that develop my business. I must get focused and serious again. How about you? Together we will conquer it in gear!

Apple CEO Tim Cook has posted an open letter to customers on Apple.com concerning iOS 6 Maps.
To our customers,
At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.
We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including features such as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and vector-based maps. In order to do this, we had to create a new version of Maps from the ground up.
There are already more than 100 million iOS devices using the new Apple Maps, with more and more joining us every day. In just over a week, iOS users with the new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations. The more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.
While we?re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app.
Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.

Based on your problem associated with residence, work standing and revenue, it is possible to be entitled to credit as high as $1500, however some creditors may give a maximum of $500. You'll have a opportunity to discover how much you be eligible for a just before agreeing to just about any mortgage loan agreement.
There is an important legal big difference from the gift along with a loan. A really nice relative or good friend may offer you $5000 regarding auto repairs, as an example. When there is no expectation associated with repayment, the money can be viewed as a gift. The giver could not sue with regard to payment later on inside a municipal suit. However when the borrowed funds provider designates the money just like a loan and also the consumer will pay back again a dollar, the amount of money may very well be a legitimate loan as well as the loan company could demand repayment anytime. Small claims legal courts invest a lot of time identifying whether the deal which include cash would have been a present or perhaps loan. Because of this paperwork is important when creating personal financial loans in order to good friends or family.
The requirements to get credit are pretty straight forward. In case you are employed, having a monthly profits involving $800 or even more, this will let you bank account, you satisfy the basic requirements. A number of creditors within our network may have additional needs.

One particular essential point may be the revenue in order to credit card debt ratio in the client. May the customer have the ability to pay the bank loan back along with interest? Skilled loan providers generally 'sell' cash, so customers should be aware simply how much financing truly 'costs' with regards to real money.

Landing your dream job takes more than just sending a resume and cover letter to prospective employers. The search is filled with potential for mistakes that can prevent you from simply obtaining an interview. Even if you?re certain you?re putting your best foot forward, you could be overlooking these six common mistakes made by job seekers:
Mistake #1: Failure to network
When it comes to job searching, it often comes down to who you know. Professional networking is a great way to get your foot in the door with a potential employer. Making these connections is the key to getting your resume directly into the hands of the person making hiring decisions. Don?t be shy. Visit career fairs and sign up with professional organizations to get to know other people in the industry you want to work in.
Mistake #2: Skipping the cover letter for online applications
The more information you provide during the application process, the better chance you have of landing an interview. Today, many applications and resumes are sent via online web forms that ask for specific information from job candidates. Even if it?s not strictly required, send a cover letter with every online application you submit. Doing so will not only make an impression, but it will give the hiring manager more insight into your background and put you one step ahead of other applicants. Two instances where sending a cover letter is not advised is when the job description specifically states not to send one, or there is no section in the online application to submit a cover letter. You might think this is a test of the hiring manager and brownie points will go to the applicant that goes above and beyond the requirements, but it isn?t. In fact, sending a cover letter when the job description explicitly says not to could be used to help weed out the candidates that don?t take the time to read the entire job description or lack attention to detail.
Mistake #3: Sending a generic cover letter
First impressions count. Viewed from the perspective of a hiring manager, sending a generic cover letter is lazy. With this shotgun approach, you may as well send your cover letter out to every company in the hospitality industry. Instead of sending a canned and generic letter, tailor the letter to your reader by focusing on the needs of the specific company and the details of the specific position for which you are applying. Do your homework and use your cover letter to demonstrate how your skills and experience could benefit the company. In today?s competitive job market, your cover letter must be so compelling that the hiring manager immediately sees you as their future employee.
Mistake #4: Procrastination
This isn?t the time to sit back and let opportunities come to you. In today?s job market, many employers receive hundreds of responses to their ad, enabling them to choose a qualified candidate quickly. If you found the job announcement weeks after its initial post date, it may already be too late to apply, even if you are the perfect candidate. Stay on top of the process by searching job boards as frequently as possible, giving yourself plenty of time to assemble a polished application package before the close date.
Mistake #5: You?re distracted
When searching for a job, especially online, it?s easy to become sidetracked. Taking a few minutes here and there to check your personal e-mail or reading what your friends are posting on Facebook can drain more time than you think. Finding a job requires a minimum of three hours of uninterrupted time where your primary focus is on the job searching process. Set realistic daily goals and don?t get distracted until you have completed your tasks. Preparing quality, tailored resumes and cover letters for each job application requires concentration and dedication.
Mistake #6: Not following up after interviews
After every interview, send a thank-you note promptly. Use this opportunity to thank the interviewer for their time, state what you learned about the organization during the interview, and how your skills and experience will help contribute to the organization. Also, try to mention something about yourself to help the interviewer remember which job applicant you were during the interview process. You want to stand out from the competition and be memorable.
Don?t forget to follow up on applications that haven?t yet netted you an interview, too. Many job seekers make the mistake of sending their resume and never following up to make sure the right person has received it. Remember, the hiring process can take some time, and with the online application process, it?s easy to feel like your resume lost its way down a black hole. If you haven?t heard back from the employer after sending your application, don?t be afraid to call or e-mail to ask about the status of the job opening. Doing so could get your resume the attention it deserves. ? Originally posted on onTargetjobs by Matthew O?Donnell

And the comments from marketers have not been encouraging for Facebook's bottom (or top) line.
All the brands have tried Facebook, of course. But they've had mixed success.
And, importantly, a lot of the success stories have come through companies using Facebook as a platform to interact directly with customers, rather than as a paid advertising medium.
Gilt Groupe, for example, was one of the first companies to set up a store on Facebook.
It flopped.
Why?
Because people don't go to Facebook to shop, said Gilt Chairman Susan Lyne. They go to hang out and chat with their friends.
Selling things on Facebook, Lyne said, is like selling things in a bar.
Lyne said Gilt has had exceptional success on Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter, albeit for different brands. Pinterest has been huge for JetSetter, because of all the beautiful travel pictures that JetSetter has pinned and encouraged followers to re-pin. Gilt City, meanwhile, has given Twitter followers freebies for tweeting about the latest deals they've gotten and invited Instagram followers to take and share pictures of their cities.
(Facebook owns Instagram, so the news isn't all bad.)
Gilt does spend some money advertising on Facebook, but most of its social-media budget is devoted to its own promotions and people.Dave Gilboa, the co-CEO of Warby Parker, a new online eyewear retailer, said "Facebook advertising hasn't worked."
Warby has benefited heavily from Facebook word-of-mouth, but that's because Facebook users have used Facebook to spread the word about Warby. And they've done this in part because of articles that have been written about Warby that have been shared by Facebook users--not because Warby has spent money advertising on Facebook.
Gilboa added that "90%" of the interactions Warby Parker has with people on Facebook are customer-service interactions.
Meanwhile, Adam Kmiec, the Global Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media at the Campbell Soup Company, said Facebook "is the most A.D.D. company I've ever seen."
Kmiec says Facebook has changed its ad products every few months, creating tremendous confusion among its clients. Kmiec suggested, for example, that Facebook may be about to kill "Reach Generator," a huge product it announced a huge launch conference earlier this year in New York. Until recently, Kmiec said, Facebook has also refused to share much data with its clients, making it "really tough for marketers and partners" to judge how their campaigns and content are doing.
Twitter, on the other hand, Kmiec says, has created spectacular tools for marketers. And this has helped Twitter gain strong early traction.
The message we've heard over and over again this morning is that the social platforms are excellent (critical) tools with which advertisers can interact with customers and potential customers, but that this is not the result of the advertisers spending money advertising on the platforms. Pinterest, for example, doesn't even accept advertising yet. And much of the value that advertisers can get out of Facebook comes from the advertisers' own efforts and investments and people, not Facebook advertising.
Kmiec of Campbell Soup put it this way: "The answer isn't Facebook. The answer is your social strategy."
"The mad rush to Facebook [is over]," he said.

Home prices have been slow to rebound in many recession-battered U.S. cities.
By Michael B. Sauter and Alexander E. M. Hess, 24/7 Wall St.
?Since home prices peaked in the beginning of 2006, the U.S. median home price is down by a third. And though the market has begun to show signs of bottoming out, prices are still down nationally by 1.9 percent from last year and are expected to fall an additional 1 percent from the beginning of this year through 2013.
24/7 Wall St.: The 10 states with the strongest housing markets
Of the 384 largest housing markets measured by real estate data company?Fiserv, 69 have seen home prices fall more than the national average. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the markets with the worst home price declines from their pre-recession?peak. Of those metro areas, we identified the markets where the median?price did not improve in any of the periods measured by Fiserv as of the first quarter of 2012. The?10 worst are housing markets that have fallen at least 55 percent and have yet to recover.
While the drop in home prices in these markets has slowed, the local economies have been devastated. July unemployment rates in the worst housing markets were all above the national rate of 8.1 percent. Eight of the 10 have rates of at least 10 percent, and five are above 12 percent. Merced, Calif., one of the?10 worst-off cities, had an unemployment rate of 17.8 percent in July, the fourth-highest in the country.
According Fiserv chief economist David Stiff, the unemployment rates and languishing home prices in these markets are indicative of the underlying problems in these states as a whole. ?The reason the job markets are so weak in these metro areas is that during the boom more than half of the growth was generated either directly or indirectly by residential real estate, and so now the reverse has happened,? Stiff explained.?
Further evidence of the economic troubles heaped on these cities, three of the housing markets ? San Bernardino, Vallejo and Stockton ? have filed for bankruptcy since the recession began. Stockton?s Chapter 9 filing represents the largest such case in U.S. history.
Continually depressed home prices also have led to unusually high foreclosure rates in these markets. According to foreclosure data from RealtyTrac, a site that tracks housing data, these cities had among the worst foreclosure rates in the country as of the second quarter of 2012. Of the 10 cities, eight are among the 20 with the highest foreclosure rates out of the 212 metro regions with populations of 200,000 or more.
Of the cities with the worst home price declines, some have begun to recover. In the Detroit metro area, which did not make the list, the median home price has declined by 55.8 percent from the first quarter of 2006. However, between the first quarter of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, the median price went up by 8.6 percent, one of the largest increases in the country.
Like Detroit, many of the the 10 worst-off markets appear to be about to recover because buyers see bargains. Home prices in seven of the 10 metro areas were lower than the national median of $159,000. Fiserv projects that of the 10 housing markets on our list, five will increase by more than the national rate of 5 percent between the first quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014. This includes the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach region, which Fiserv projects will have more than 10 percent growth in median home value in that time. Stiff confirmed this: ?Investors, who were part of the problem back in the boom years, will be trying to jump into these markets at a low.?
24/7 Wall St.: Cities with the most homes in foreclosure
24/7 Wall St. reviewed data from Fiserv?to determine the 10 metropolitan areas that had no annual improvement in their housing markets from the first quarter of 2007, the first quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2011, all through the first quarter of 2012. We relied on RealtyTrac for data on foreclosure rates and foreclosure sales (both for second quarter of 2012). We also obtained seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for July from the Bureau of Labor Statistics
These are the?10 towns that cannot turn around.
1. Merced,?Calif.
Nowhere in the U.S. have home prices taken the beating they have in Merced where the median price of a home has fallen at an annualized rate of 19.2 percent in the past five years. That's?the highest rate in the country. Sadly, prices are not expected to begin to rise in 2012, as Fiserv predicts home prices will fall another 4.4 percent between the first quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of?2013. Though home prices were possibly overvalued at their peak, when the median mortgage payment cost 51 percent of monthly income, they would appear to be undervalued now; the median mortgage payment costs just 10 percent of monthly income. The decline in home value has been especially costly for some homeowners, as one in every 90.3 homes was in foreclosure, and 55 percent of all home sales were foreclosure sales. The massive decline in home prices has also caused significant damage to the local economy ? the unemployment rate in Merced was 17.8 percent, higher than almost all other metropolitan areas.
2. Modesto, Calif.
Over the past five years Modesto?s median home price has fallen from 7.5 times median family income to just 2.5 times median family income. Though homes in the area have become more affordable, such price declines have devastated present and current homeowners. The area had the third-highest foreclosure rate in the nation at slightly higher than one in every 69 homes, and 57 percent of all homes sold were foreclosed properties. In few places has the economy been weakened by a housing collapse more than in Modesto, where the unemployment rate stood at 15.7 percent, the ninth highest rate nationwide.

3. Stockton,?Calif.
When Stockton filed for bankruptcy in June, it became the largest-ever U.S. city to do so, according to The Wall Street Journal. The city?s economy has been plagued for years by constantly falling?home prices, which declined at an annualized rate of 16.6 percent between the first quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2012. Stockton also has one of the nation?s highest unemployment rates of 15 percent and a foreclosure rate that leads the nation with one in every 66.2 homes in foreclosure. Though Fiserv projects home prices will rise at an annualized rate of nearly 6 percent between the first quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2017, the housing market remains weak.?Fifty-four percent of all second-quarter home sales were foreclosure sales, and the number of property listings in July was down more than 40 percent year-over-year.
4. Las Vegas-Paradise,?Nev.
No metropolitan area outside California has seen as large and unabated decline in home prices as Las Vegas. While home prices in other metro areas on this list are expected to improve in the near future, home prices in Las Vegas are projected by Fiserv to decline through at least the first quarter of 2014. Home prices in the area are already low enough that the average discount for purchasing a foreclosed home was just 15.2 percent, less than half the 31.7 percent average discount nationwide.
5. Vallejo-Fairfield,?Calif.
The Vallejo-Fairfield, Calif., metro area home price drop of more than 60 percent since the first quarter of 2006 was the sixth-worst decline during the housing market collapse of the 384 regions measured by Fiserv. Despite the decline, the area?s median home price was still in the top 15 percent, largely because the area contains California?s famous wine region, the Napa Valley. Median family income was among the top 40 in the country at $76,100. Despite this, one in every 71.4 homes was in foreclosure as of the second quarter of this year, the fourth-highest rate in the country.

JERUSALEM (AP) ? A new Israeli government report, leaked to local media Thursday, concludes that international sanctions are hitting Iran hard ? undercutting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's key claim as he heads to the United Nations to argue for tougher action against the Jewish state's arch foe.
The report surfaced after Israel's foreign minister predicted that Iran's leaders would face an Arab Spring-style popular revolt within the next year ? an argument that further counters Netanyahu's charge that an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities may be the only answer to what he calls a fanatic and intransigent Iranian leadership.
Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but Israel, the United States and other Western countries reject that assertion. The U.N. has already slapped four rounds of economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic, but Netanyahu has repeatedly cast doubt on the effectiveness of those measures, arguing that they have crippled Iran's economy but have not convinced Tehran to halt its nuclear program.
Netanyahu has instead placed emphasis on urging the U.S. to draw "red lines" which would make clear which conditions would provoke an American strike on Iran's nuclear facilities ? a demand that Washington has rejected.
When Netanyahu addresses the U.N. General Assembly Thursday, he is expected to reiterate his contention that the sanctions are not working ? a claim that could be deflected by the findings in the new report, which came from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
According to the report, details of which appeared in the Haaretz newspaper, Iran's oil exports declined by over 50 percent in the past year ? from 2.4 million barrels a day to 1 million ? and oil revenues dropped by $40 billion since the beginning of the year.
An Israeli official confirmed the report but refused to elaborate on it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss internal government documents.
The report also claims that sanctions on Iran's central bank have made it difficult for the regime to access its foreign currency reserves, causing a 100 percent gap between the country's official exchange rate and where the rial is trading on the black market. Bread, meat and electricity prices have also soared because of the sanctions, the report finds.
Israel's Foreign Ministry, Haaretz reports, based its findings on data it received from countries that have embassies in Iran.

Hark the days of our childhood when many of us played flag football. Those were the good times. Sure we would find some time to play tackle football without pads and other times a simple game of ?two-hand touch.? But there was always something special about playing flag football. At any position on the field, we could be who we wanted to be. Maybe I could be Joe Montana at quarterback or even ?Mean? Joe Greene at defensive end? It was a game of simplicity and grace and it brought out a smile in each of us.

High School football might take center stage on a Thursday or Friday evening at Memorial Field and Pop Warner on a Saturday at Burbank High, but it doesn?t get any better than wrapping that flag belt around your waist, inserting your mouthpiece and wearing your jersey with pride.
Flag football is alive and well here in Burbank. It?s thriving and it?s here to stay. One visit to Foy Park on any weekday evening and the memories come rushing back. The noise of whistles in the air, enthusiastic yelling by the players, positive encouragement by the coaches and cheering amongst the fans are just a fraction of the sights and sounds at Foy Park.
?There is a lot of excitement this year,? said Jason Dyer, the City of Burbank?s Recreation Coordinator. ?For one, we have doubled the numbers. We went from 12 to 24 teams. We?ve also had some free camps and clinics and will continue to have them throughout the season.?

Burbank Park and Recreation has done a tremendous job in continuing the success, tradition and enjoyment of flag football. Dyer said there are 30 to 40 percent new kids participating this year.
Twenty-four teams are separated into three age brackets (Grades 2 ? 4, Grades 5/6, and Grades 7 ? 9) and two divisions per bracket (NFL and AFL). Each game features 8 on 8 with every player being eligible on offense. Each player plays the same amount of time. Most importantly for many parents, there isn?t any?hard hitting or tackling. The emphasis is on learning the fundamentals of the sport and the rules of the game.
?You get to learn the game without getting hit. You learn how to move your feet and learn how to play each position,? Dyer said. ?You want to be able to come out here and play and not worry about an injury that might eliminate your career this young. There is a need for both (tackle and flag football) and I think both can co-exist which is great.?

While teams come and go at the youth level, there is one constant in Burbank. The Burbank Dolphins and Coach Mike Graceffo are synonymous with flag football in this city. They have been a fixture of Burbank Park and Recreation for more than 30 years. Graceffo is a pillar of strength in the sports community.
?I love sports and I played all the sports when I was a kid. This is my way of giving back to the community a little bit,? said Graceffo, who has coached in this league since the late 1970?s. ?I love flag football because you can open it up. Everyone is eligible to catch a pass. It?s an offensive dream and a defensive nightmare. It?s just a fun game.?
Graceffo?s love and passion for flag football and youth sports does not go unnoticed. He has gained the admiration of many former players who keep in touch with him to this day as well as coach by his side as an assistant.
?Mike Graceffo is awesome. I?ve been able to play for him and coach with him,? said Kenny Knoop, defensive coordinator for the Burroughs Indians. ?I still work with him to this day with our schools and PE. He?s still right there in my life.
Burroughs assistant coach Kenny Knoop played for the Burbank Dolphins in 7th and 8th grade (Photo by Dick Dornan)
?I absolutely love the Burbank Dolphins,? Knoop continued. ?I still go to games and see Mike (Graceffo) and Ken (Bailey) on the field. I started football with the Burbank Dolphins. That was my introduction to football. They are definitely still in my heart.?
?Mike taught me how to be a competitor, how to love sports and to be a team player,? Burbank Dolphins Orange assistant Mike Mersola said. ?He is kind of like the fabric of the city and the Dolphins program is a fabric of the youth. My memories of it were the best times of my youth. Coaching now is really rewarding. It?s an honor and a privilege.?
The Burbank Dolphins Orange is currently 5-0 while the Burbank Dolphins Black is 3-1. It?s nice to win but victories are the last thing on the mind of Graceffo and his staff. It?s about teaching his players how to play the game of football properly while making it exciting at the same time.
So what makes flag football so much fun?
Quarterback Nathan Mehta of the Burbank Dolphins Orange looks downfield for a receiver (Photo by Craig Sherwood)
?It?s all about speed and not just hitting people like tackle,? said Nathan Mehta, 12, quarterback for the Burbank Dolphins Orange. ?I?ve learned that when you keep winning don?t get over your head because there is always someone working to beat you. Always keep working hard even if you are winning. Always be ready for the next game.?
?I like the sport,? said Jesse Rodriguez, 11, who plays guard, center and kicker for the Burbank Dolphins Orange. ?I like to run a lot. It lets all my energy out.?
?It?s fun to play with your friends and it?s a sport that I like and I?m good at it,? said Jonathan Topete, 12, running back for the Burbank Dolphins Orange.
Knoop played tackle football for the first time in ninth grade at Burroughs High. He credits his flag football experience as a major reason for successfully preparing him for the high school level.
?Flag football helps you with the concepts of moving in space and travelling and attacking a person. Two kids running into each other isn?t what football is all about,? Knoop explained. ?As a kid I learned how to attack a target, move lateral, cross the field to get where I was going and learn the angles of the game.
?The basic fundamentals of hand-eye coordination, catching, throwing and blocking were all there without smashing into somebody. I am a true believer that tackling in football is an attitude. You don?t have to have pads on to do that correctly. I am a big advocate of kids in flag football. They are learning all the basics of the game.?
Many kids who played flag football first before tackle during the middle school years later became successful at the high school level and beyond.
These Burbank Dolphins alumni include Kenny Knoop, Carlos Baker, Todd Dellutri, Ryan Bowne, Dylan Mersola, Joe Cesta, Mike Cesta, Matt Pentecost, Jabbar Craigwell, Brian Kaloustian, Kyle Creamarosa, Keith Jarbo, Richie Ramos, Bobby Machuca, David Machuca, John Jay, John Wagner, Mike Wagner, Ryan Buchanon, Finnbarr Geary, Freddy Keeler, David Escobar, Migual Armendariz, Joe Ungos, Shane Clark, Seth Oseransky, Dillon Disiere, Jake Micioni, Jon McGinley and Josef Topete to name a few. ?
Burbank Dolphins Black (Photo by Ross A. Benson)
Approximately 95 percent of these players went on to star in high school football without having played tackle until their freshman year. Thus, flag football is a great way to begin one?s journey on the gridiron.
The future of flag football is bright in Burbank. Dyer hopes for all middle and private schools in the Burbank area to participate next year for grades seven through nine.
Burbank Park and Recreation will be hosting a high school night at a Burroughs, Burbank and Bell-Jeff football game soon and there will be an end of the season finale that includes punt, pass and kick, and a ceremony honoring the champions, runner-ups and sportsmanship winners for this season.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? President Barack Obama is condemning an anti-Muslim film and the violence in the Middle East that has followed its release, saying there is "no speech that justifies mindless violence."
Obama says in a speech Tuesday before the U.N. General Assembly that "there are no words that excuse the killing of innocent" and "no video that justifies an attack on an embassy."
Obama says the video "is an insult not only to Muslims, but to America as well."
The president was speaking in the aftermath of violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa connected to the release of an anti-Muslim video produced in the United States.
Four Americans were killed in Libya, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, along with more than 50 others in the violence.

Figuring out what to invest in can be tough. There are many stocks on the market, and it can be tough to tell a winner from a loser. As you spend more time investing, though, you will begin to see patterns emerge. While you are still on the road to becoming a stock expert, though, you might want to stick with simple stock picks that can help you design a more robust financial portfolio.
There are a few key things to consider if you want to learn what to invest in. First, you should decide upon the level of risk that you are willing to take. Companies without a proven history but with a great product might experience tremendous growth, or they might quickly fade away. Taking the risk might lead to a short-term payout, but it will rarely lead to any long-term gains. At the same time, many stocks experience slow and regular growth. These stocks are low-risk and will rarely get you rich, but they will provide you with a regular income if you are willing to depend upon them. The one thing that you should avoid, though, are ?vanity? stocks that is, stocks that have an impressive name but nothing else. These stocks will usually lead to a loss, and make poor choices for those figuring out what to invest in.
If you want to invest, use common sense. Try to make sure that you know whether a particular stock will be a fast or slow earner, and whether or not that stock will fit your needs. If you are willing to find a great stock to invest in that fits your own financial plans, you will end up in a better financial position than that in which you started.
